What can I say about this March 21st wedding? As you can imagine, it is a wedding we will never forget. Our first introduction of what an Iowa wedding while social distancing can look like. In the days leading up to Kristin and Dru’s wedding day, the coronavirus and talk of shutdowns started as just a rumor. Discussions of narrowing the guest list and deciding who should stay home for safety were happening. Then the governor announced six days before the wedding that schools were shutting down and there were to be no gatherings over 10 people. Not exactly the blissful environment we envision as we enter the final countdown to the wedding.
Kristin and Dru admirably decided they didn’t want to wait, instead choosing to proceed with an intimate wedding that was so beautifully focused on what matters. Family. Love. Hope. During a time that was full of so much uncertainty, their commitment to each other and their marriage brought tears to all of our eyes. I have the pleasure of witnessing so many couples get married. This was a wedding that paired down all the excess. It was two people deeply in love and ready to spend forever together, even when forever is scary. There is something so wise in their decision to use each other to get through this, and I think we should all take stock of who we have to lean on, too.
