I am SO excited to share this casual small wedding in Iowa on a blustery Tuesday afternoon in February. First of all, Erica and her son Alex are like family to us. Back in college, I worked at Bennigan’s with Erica. Yep, the same Bennigan’s I met my husband at! I ran into Erica at Target one day back in 2012 after we moved back home from Florida and our families have been doing life together ever since. She’s been one of my biggest cheerleaders as an Iowa wedding photographer. She met Matthew a couple years ago and it was so obvious from the get go that this guy was different for her. It’s been really cool to see the bond he’s built with Alex, too. It is so exciting to be welcoming Matt into the fold!
In very Erica fashion, she texted me one night asking if I’d be free the following Tuesday at 2:00 for a casual small WEDDING of just their little family. How could I say no? When life is busy and you know it’s time, it is just time.
We met at the entrance to an area bike trail for Alex to walk her down the “aisle” and heartfelt vows were exchanged…quickly because it was cold. Erica’s bestie and business partner, Willow, was the officiant. Willow’s fiance and myself served as witnesses. This particular afternoon was chosen because it was 2/22/22 and when we rushed back to our cars, the clocks read 2:22. Talk about perfect alignment. A celebratory drink at Fran and Pat’s Irish Pub while the papers were signed and the Millers are officially THE MILLERS.
